Violence in the City: Hey, That's My Bagel!

Violence in the City: Hey, That's My Bagel!

Pigeons are the garbage-eating flying denizens of any city, but in a port city like New York, seagulls also join in the fun. The particular kind that you find in New York City is the American herring gull.

On this sunny Saturday morning, on the monumental steps of the James A Farley Post Office (zip code 10001!) I documented this fight break out over a bagel between several individual exemplars of Larus argentatus smithsonianus. The main contenders are an adult on the left and a defending juvenile on the right. The kid held its own in the end.
