City Hall, Market Street National Bank, and PSFS Building - Philadelphia
This view from just west of City Hall shows three very distinct architectural styles: City Hall is French Second Empire (Beaux-Arts,) Market Street National Bank is Art Deco, and PSFS Building is a very early International Style skyscraper. The highly-decorated exterior of City Hall (1894) contrasts with the much more simplified articulation of the former Market Street National Bank (1929) skyscraper. The box-like form of the former PSFS Building (1932) is even more simple, and it foreshadows the majority of skyscrapers built in the 60s and 70s.
