NYC: Heart of the Park (Central Park)

Saturday in the Park! What could be better…except a Photo Workshop with popular photo tour leader and Central Park maven Steve Rosenbach!

This is a photo workshop that I carefully designed so as to get the maximum amount of great photo opportunities within about a 3 hour easy walk. I’m limiting the number of people who can attend, so that I can spend time with each of you to help with anything you need in getting really compelling images of the sites that we visit along the way. That can range from basic photo or camera help to assistance with composition and advanced techniques.

Also, as an added value, you'll be able to send me your photos (or links to them) from this workshop for evaluation and feedback. I'll make comments and suggestions, and in many cases, do some photo editing on your photos to demonstrate how to make a good image even better.

Our first stop will be Strawberry Fields, an intimate haven just inside the park set aside as a memorial to John Lennon. From there, we’ll circumnavigate The Lake to take advantage of panoramic views with the elegant skylines of Central Park West or Fifth Avenue in the background.

We’ll “get lost” in The Ramble, a bucolic, forested tract with a picturesque stream and rustic bridges where, for the moment, you can imagine that the city is far away.

Finally, we’ll arrive at Bethesda Terrace, an iconic, romantic plaza that you’ll recognize from countless movies. We’ll explore the Terrace from the grand sweep of its monumental staircases to the intricate carvings of honeybees and birds along its steps.

All together, we'll see 30 unique and photogenic features in the heart of Central Park, and along the way, Steve will regale you with stories of the Park and the specific sites we'll visit.

It will be a journey that will delight your sense of color, texture, and proportion as well as refresh your spirit.

NYC: Street Photography Workshop in the Squares

Learn the fundamentals and art of street photography on this half-day workshop.

If you admire the art of street photography but struggle with getting up the nerve to do it yourself, this workshop is for you.

With simple techniques, anyone can learn how to overcome the fear and take great storytelling photos with confidence.

Join us as we capture the essence of New York street photography is in the squares.

We will literally hop through a series of squares — from Columbus Circle to Times Square to Union Square to Washington Square. As we move through the squares, you will see and photograph very different personalities of the city.

Between each stop, we will travel underground on the subway, with its own set of unmistakable photo ops.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:

• How do you choose a good scene on a busy downtown street?

• How do you get great shots in stealth mode?

• What techniques can you use to break the ice and get portraits of strangers?

• What are the steps for good storytelling of street scenes?

• What composition techniques can you use for more impactful street pictures?

• What are the legal and ethical considerations when photographing strangers?

MORE BENEFITS

• Maximum instructor to student ration of 1:6

• A half-day of instruction, practice, and feedback

• Individual coaching as you work on your techniques

• Share your photos on our Facebook and Flickr groups

In order to insure that you will have plenty of coaching time during the workshop, we will have not one but two instructors: Lynford Morton, one of the foremost photography instructors in the Mid-Atlantic region, and Steve Rosenbach, NYC maven and popular workshop leader.

Please note that the workshop fee is exclusive of transportation and meals. You will need to have a MetroCard with at least two fares for the two subway rides we will take during the workshop.

Five Minutes at F/8: A Long-Exposure Workshop

  • Governors Island National Monument (map)

A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY, LIMITED TO 6 PARTICIPANTS!...
PRICE: $99/person

Click here to register and pay

Here's an amazing opportunity to learn how to do long exposures under any conditions using neutral-density filter... and learn from THE expert - our own Sheldon Katz

Sheldon gets unbelievable effects by using neutral-density filters to afford long exposure times, often as much as 5 minutes or more. Clouds streak across the frame, still water turns to cotton candy, and fireworks explosions look like exotic flowers.

We'll be photographing at Governors Island, with fantastic views of Lower Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Statue of Liberty. Coming to our free Governors Island Photo Walk that day? Then afterwards, have some lunch from one of the many food vendors, and join us for this incredible photo workshop!

Sheldon will provide the neutral-density filters and adapters to fit your lens, and you will need to bring the following:

• A camera with a lens that has a filter diameter of 77mm or smaller.

• A tripod

• A remote shutter release.

But don't delay, this workshop is limited to only 6 participants, so RSVP and register right now!
