Baltimore: Image Capture Workshop at Housewerks with Lightroom Add-On Training

Overview

Here is a unique, two-part workshop where you will learn and practice all aspects of photographic image capture, and then, in a follow-on session, learn to use Lightroom to turn your images to works of art. These sessions will be jam-packed with training and experience for every photographer at all skill levels. ALL your questions will be answered, and you will be able to go forward to photograph with confidence.

In the first part of the workshop on Sunday January 24th, professional photographer Steve Rosenbach will be your instructor, guiding you to help you home in on interesting subjects and walk you through all aspects of image capture, including shooting in RAW, exposure, custom white balance, composition, HDR, and other techniques. By the end of this session, you will have some really good images in your camera.

For the second part of the workshop on Wednesday Febrary 27th, from 6 to 9pm, you will bring the raw images from the first session, and we will walk you through how to use Lightroom to turn your very good images into extraordinary ones.

Shooting Location

For the first part of this workshop on Sunday February 24th, we will be shooting at Housewerks Salvage in the Pigtown section of Baltimore. This business has an enormous and eccentric collection of items of all kinds of salvaged architectural and industrial items - their collection of both common and unusual objects, from the mundane to the magnificent, make great photo subjects!

The company's building itself, built in 1885 as the headquarters of The Chesapeake Gas Company of Baltimore City, is visually intriguing by itself, and a subject for great photos. We will be able to photograph pretty much anywhere in the building, and if weather permits, we will go into their yard to photograph the substantial number of items there (see Fred Silber's photo above, taken in the yard.)

Lightroom Training

In the second part of the workshop on Wednesday evening February 27th, we will use your own RAW images, captured at Housewerks, to teach you to be a competent and creative Lightroom user. We will work in a comfortable location near BWI airport (attendees will get the address and directions after registering.)

Transcendental Photography: Elevating the Everyday (Baltimore)

Transcendental Photography: Elevating the Everyday (Baltimore)

"Taking something mundane, and seeing something transcendent in it is the high ground of photography," says master photographer Sam Abell.

On this unique Safari, we'll help you to slow down and really see in order to unlock your ability to photographically elevate the mundane to the magnificent. Everyday items and familiar places can offer powerful images in exchange for a little work, imagination, and practice.

A section of a docked boat. A reflection in the harbor. A shadow cast at just the right angle across a row of classical columns.

For this kind of photography, the brand of camera isn't important. Point-and-shoot versus DSLR versus mirrorless isn't important. How much you spent on your equipment isn't important.   Just look... see... isolate.

Great photos are everywhere, but most people pass them by every day, unnoticed. This safari will help you see those missed images and start you on your way to a new realm of photography.

Your leader for this Safari will be Steve Rosenbach, an award-winning photographer and popular photo tour guide and instructor. Steve has been photographing in Baltimore for over twelve years - he knows where the best photos are and will show you how to make compelling images you might otherwise pass right by.
